When the eyes are  not willing to shut, many people  choose to "count sheep" so they can sleep more quickly. It is expected that monotonous activities that will help us to sleep. But is it this an effective way cause drowsiness?

Scientists from Oxford University doing a research about it. In their research involving people who suffer from insomnia and divided into several groups. The researchers then monitored the speed of sleep onset in participants who are divided into several techniques that draw them to sleep.

Apparently when the studied participants were given instructions to count sheep or were not given any orders, they just take longer to get sleepy. Conversely, when they were asked to imagine something calming, like the beach, they actually fell asleep 20 minutes faster.

The researchers speculate that counting sheep may be very very boring, while imagining a calm atmosphere actually makes the body more relaxed so that more quickly fell asleep.

In another study, researchers compared the people who easily sleep with insomnia group. As a result there was no significant difference. The people that has insomnia is usually imagine or think of something unpleasant, make anxious, noisy surroundings, or activities they've done in the daytime.

That's why the researchers conclude, if you want fast fall asleep, do not count sheep. But imagine a calm atmosphere and creates a feeling of comfort.  Eyes will also be easily closed.
