A circular plaza built 5,500 years ago has been found in Peru, and archeologists involved in excavations has determine that the carbon dates indicate that the plaza is one of the oldest building ever found in America. A team of Peruvian and German archaeologists uncovered the plaza, which was hidden beneath another piece of architecture at the ruins known as Sechin Bajo, in Casma, 370 km north of Lima, the capital.

"It was an impressive discovery, scientists and archaeological community is very pleased," said Cesar Perez, the scientist at Peru's National Institute of Culture who supervised the project. "This could redesign the history of this country." Before the discovery at Sechin Bajo, archaeologists considered the ancient fortress of Caral Peru is one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, about 5,000 years old.

Scientists say Caral, located a few hours if taken by car from Sechin Bajo, was one of six places in the world (along with Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India and Mesoamerica) where humans started living in the town of five thousand years ago. "The dating done by the German archaeologists say about 5,500 years, but other parts could be older depending on what else is found," said Perez. Earlier last discovery which is situated near Sechin Bajo only 3,600 years old. This is a picture illustration:

"They have very advanced understanding of architecture and building. It can be clearly seen in the fact that the materials they use to survive very long," Peter Fuchs, one archaeologist, told the newspaper El Comercio. Social meeting place that Fuchs and his colleagues found was built with stone and brick.

Hundreds of archaeological sites found in Peru, and many cultural ruins built by the Inca empire was very powerful, which reached its peak in ke16 century, just before Spanish conquerors arrived to the place now known as Peru.
